Irm Hermann was a prominent German actress known for her extensive collaboration with the celebrated director Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Born on October 4, 1942, in Munich, she originally trained to be a secretary but was discovered by Fassbinder, who cast her in several of his key films. Her distinct presence and versatile acting made her a staple in New German Cinema. Some of her notable films with Fassbinder include "The Merchant of Four Seasons" (1972), "Fear Eats the Soul" (1974), and "Mother Küsters' Trip to Heaven" (1975). Beyond Fassbinder's work, she appeared in other significant projects such as Werner Herzog's "Woyzeck" (1979) and Hans W. Geißendörfer's "The Glass Cell" (1978). Throughout her career, Hermann received several accolades including the German Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1979 for "The Glass Cell" and the Bavarian Film Award in 1991. Irm Hermann passed away on May 26, 2020, leaving behind a legacy marked by her distinctive contributions to German cinema.
