Boris Charmatz is a French dancer, choreographer, and director, renowned for his innovative approach to contemporary dance. Born in Chambéry, France, on January 23, 1973, Charmatz has greatly influenced the dance world with his experimental works. His career began as a dancer, but he soon transitioned to choreography, founding the Association Edna with Dimitri Chamblas. In 2009, he became the director of the Musée de la danse (Dance Museum) in Rennes, France, where he sought to redefine the concept of dance spaces and performance. Charmatz's notable works include "Aatt enen tionon," "Levée des conflits," and "Manger." His approach often involves deconstructing traditional dance forms and integrating elements of theater and performance art. He has collaborated with prominent figures in contemporary art and participated in international festivals and venues such as the Festival d'Avignon, the Tate Modern in London, and MoMA in New York. Although not traditionally an actor or film director, Charmatz's influence and contributions to the field of contemporary dance have been widely recognized and celebrated.
