A visually stunning documentary about rigid gender roles and uncritical enslavement to the dictates of (hetero)normativity. The director Adele Tullis points her camera at everyday actions, rituals, and scenes, and by means of a counteracting image-sound montage adds filmic commentary. In long, calm shots, she shows how girls become princesses, how a father accompanies his son to a motorcycle race, and how screaming girls have themselves photographed with YouTube stars. She shows boys playing first-person shooter and Gotcha games, films a course designed to show young men how to become an alpha male, and one in which women are to learn how best to serve men in marriage.
