At the request of his mother Gitte, Marko (Lars Eidinger), who has lived in Berlin for years, travels to his parents (Corinna Harfouch, Ernst Stötzner) in the countryside.
His hope for a quiet weekend with his family is not fulfilled. Unexpectedly for all, Gitte reveals that she is well again after a long mental illness. Marko is the only one who responds to her request to treat her from now on as a full member of the family and thus not only upsets the supposedly well-rehearsed relationship of his parents.
In HOME FOR THE WEEKEND, director Hans-Christian Schmid tells with an ensemble of top-class actors how a family breaks apart within a few days.
