German (Germany) French
Toni Morrison was the first black female author to win the Nobel Prize in Literature and is widely acknowleged as a trailblazer in African-American literature.
On August 5, 2019, Toni Morrison, author of eleven novels translated into dozens of languages, passed away at the age of 88. Honored as a "national treasure" by Barack Obama the day after her death, she had had a significant impact on the history of the United States through her dedication and the literary and cultural revolution she instigated.
By turns a critic, a book editor, a college professor, a creative author of novels, poems and essays, Morrison claimed the invention of a black writing and brought the light on what was kept under wraps in the US history.
