Directed by Maren Ade, actors Peter Simonischek and Sandra Hüller play an estranged father-daughter duo. Their performances were honored with the German and European Film Awards. Winfried doesn't see much of his daughter, a management consultant in Bucharest. But he pays her a surprise visit after the death of his dog. He shows up in the lobby of her company wearing a pair of gag dentures and weird sunglasses. But the visit does not lead to a reconciliation. Winfried annoys his daughter with corny jokes and subtle criticism of her performance-oriented life. "Maren Ade's unique study of estranged but mutually depressive father and daughter is a humane, hilarious triumph." (
