People from Sub-Saharan Africa, trying to reach Europe, often strand in Lybia. But the war-torn country is one of the worst places in the world to be a refugee or asylum seeker. There is a very high chance for being abused, tortured and raped in one of the country’s many detention centers. The filmmakers managed to get inside one of the most notorious centers in Zawiya. There, we witness the appalling conditions firsthand. Humanitarian organisations specializing in rescue aid have taken to the sea or the skies to patrol the area. Accused of aiding illegal immigration in Europe, these NGOs are the target of numerous administrative and judicial claims that attempt to derail their mission.
