Memphis, Tennessee - one of the poorest cities in the USA and home of the Stax Music Academy. A haven for black youth and an oasis for soul music.
Founded in 2000, the academy continues the legacy of Stax Records, the legendary soul label of the 1960s that was an active space for dialogue during the civil rights movement.
Through learning and understanding soul music in after-school programs, teens immerse themselves in the heritage of black Americans and open themselves to new futures. Soul Kids is a musical odyssey through the history and concerns of a new generation.
"SOUL KIDS is a stunning documentary about music and passion, about racism and courage and hope." (Frankfurter Rundschau)
