Our Loved Ones

At the center is David, whose father dies at the beginning of the film - a suicide - as David learns years later. In life David is 'the lucky one'.
Yet he is not doing so well. The film rarely explains what exactly is going on with him. "I live through you" he writes to his daughter Laurence in her diary. Every single episode in OUR LOVED ONES reflects the life choices and paths taken by its family members. The stories are set years apart and yet director Émond manages to keep the film flowing seamlessly from one episode to the next.
Anne Émond's OUR LOVED ONES opens with gravity, then allows for lightness and conceals the actual drama behind the smiling façade of the main figure all the while telling the generations-long story of Leblanc family history.
