On the outskirts of Berlin the so-called culture war breaks out. A Muslim community wants to build a mosque on a derelict piece of land.
Residents join together in a citizens' initiative, local politicians and neo-Nazis protest hand in hand against the planned construction. There are demonstrations and riots until incendiary devices are set and neighbors become enemies. The restaged film "Moschee DE" is based on individually conducted interviews with protagonists of the first mosque construction conflict of this kind in the new German states. The five characters developed from these interviews offer word for word an exemplary and deep insight into the mood of a country in which Islam is becoming part of everyday life.
