Queer in Japan: Whether homo, sado, gerontophile, or rubber fetish: The deeply conservative society in the Land of the Rising Sun still marginalizes queer people. The protagonists in Yukio Tanaka's documentary are as diverse as their kinks. They are united in their experiences of marginalization, trauma, and violence. Through his friend, gay manga artist Miro Daikokudo, filmmaker Tanaka gets to know various sexual minorities such as drag queen Simone Fukayuki and transgender Azumi. To cope with what they have experienced, they have formed communities of social outcasts and devoted themselves to arts such as music, performance, tattooing and photography.
