Volker Spengler, who has worked with Fassbinder, Schlingensief and Pollesch and whose role in 'In a Year with 13 Moons' is one of the most impressive acting performances in German cinema, is the center of the film. Various companions of Spengler - actors, directors, musicians, protagonists of the film and theater scene - have gathered at a Berlin pub table and talk about the actor; anecdotally, reminiscing, about first encounters and embarrassing moments, admiration and irritation. Spengler, who is still alive at the time of filming, sits at the table in some scenes. Fritz Kortner said to the young actor during a rehearsal, "Spengler, you are the downfall of the Occident."
