2006: Baghdad is ravaged by sectarian violence. Haifa Street is the epicenter of the conflict. Ahmed has to cross this sniper-infested street. Ahmed has returned from the U.S. to take his beloved Suad and their daughter to somewhere safe. But just as Ahmed enters Haifa Street, 23-year-old Tariq shoots him and prevents anyone from getting close to him. As Suad takes on the arduous task of recovering Ahmed's body, the familial bonds between the sniper and his victims become increasingly clear. "As works of fiction go, this is one of the most revealing about what it was like to live at the center of Baghdad's sectarian conflict." (The National)
