A battalion of female resistance fighters, known as the Girls of the Sun, were once hostages of IS. Now they vow to take back their country. Bahar (Golshifteh Farahani), the commander of the battalion, is preparing to liberate her hometown in Kurdistan from the hands of extremists. She hopes to find her son who is being held hostage. Mathilde, a French journalist, is covering the attack and is bearing witness to the story of these exceptional warriors. They all have been fighting for the same cause: women, life and liberty. Based on a true story GIRLS OF THE SUN not only "tells the story of an extraordinary Peshmerga fighting force, it also lends itself to taking a critical look at the genre of war film itself." (
