Fassbinder: Love Without Demands
| 107 min
R.W. Fassbinder has never been shown with such openness and introspection. From an interview filmed in Cannes in 1978 and previously unreleased, an incredibly personal portrait has emerged.
Danish film director and historian Christian Baard Thomsen met Fassbinder in 1969 after that director's first, memorable Berlinale appearance. The two subsequently became close friends. A conversation which took place 10 years later is cleverly interwoven by Thomsen with the main themes of Fassbinder's works, and includes extensive interviews with some of his closer companions, such as Irm Hermann and Harry Baer.
"One should not dismiss Fassbinder's cinema, just as one should not venerate Fassbinder as a patron saint. Both lead us past the truth. A truth that Danish film director and historian Christian Baard Thomsen impressively presents in his phenomenal documentary." (Kino-Zeit)
