Photographer Duane Michals is known for his innovative work with photo sequences and incorporating text into his images. We accompany him to his favorite places. These include the steel city of Pittsburgh, site of his childhood; New York, city of encounters and longing; and Vermont, nexus of nature and transience. At the heart of Michals' work is an exploration of his approach to universal themes of love, longing, death and immortality. Duane Michals is a nearly 80-year-old man and, above all, one of America's masters of photography. He works as a storyteller, incorporating handwritten text that adds another dimension of meaning to the images.
