Today her film, based on the novel 'Desert Of The Heart' by Jane Rule, is one of the classics of LGBT cinema. Set in 1950s America, Professor Vivian Bell from New York is dissatisfied with her marriage and life. She's heading to Reno, Nevada to divorce her husband. Vivian spends some time on a ranch and finds a welcome change in Cay Rivers, the self-confident stepdaughter of ranch owner Frances Parker.
