The Einstein of Sex: Life and Work of Dr. M. Hirschfeld

| 96 min
| German

Rosa von Praunheim recounts the fascinating biography of the revolutionary sex researcher Magnus Hirschfeld and his groundbreaking findings which were attacked by German Nazis. Magnus Hirschfeld (1868-1935) is considered a pioneer of sexuality research. The son of a Jewish family, he studied medicine in the late 1880s before devoting himself to the scientific study of sexual orientation. In 1918 Hirschfeld founded the Institute for Sexual Research, which was a world leader until the Nazis came to power. "Despite its relatively low-budget (yet never inelegant) style, the film often seems like a small miracle - so spellbound, marveling, Praunheim looks back on this man who was ahead of his time and fought for this progress, and the viewer can't help but marvel with him."
