Marina Abramović, Sigalit Landau, Shirin Neshat and Katharina Sieverding are united by what is at the center of their artistic work: the female body. Although their primary means of expression - performance, installation, film, or photography - are sometimes very different, formative experiences such as the Yugoslav Wars, the Middle East conflict, the Iranian Revolution, or fascism in Germany seem to have led the four artists to explore similar themes, such as the relationship to their own bodies or dealing with pain. "Regardless of how one may feel about the work of the women artists in the film, the film is compelling in that it shows us the relevance of art to all of our lives and what wounds our society carries with it but ignores for most of the time."
