The Sutter family can no longer earn a living from their Swiss mountain farm in the 1970s. A family catastrophe is brewing.
The drought and scorching heat is a disaster for nature and the family farm, and emotions start to boil too. While his aggression-prone father waits desperately for the army to deliver water, young Gus helps him raise poultry - the family's only source of income. His mother however drifts further and further away, spending time with the fascinating and emancipated Cécile.
Gus sees his family shaken to its foundations. Everyone is waiting for the redeeming storm that will bring the rain and wash away the world as Gus has known it until now.
