Autobiographical documentary by the award-winning director Kim Ki-duk (PIETÀ): a personal reflection by the director portraying his experiences during a creative and artistic crisis. One sees Kim living self-sufficiently in a hut surrounded by nature with his only friends – a cat and his camcorder. He asks questions of himself then answers them, he toys with expectations, and explains his hermit lifestyle. During shooting, he suffers the trauma of the near-death of an actress friend. He is also bitter about disloyal employees and failed projects. Nevertheless, the sensitive artist knows the limit of his isolation. The film ARIRANG is named after a Korean folk song that Kim often sings.
