Five years after the fall of the Taliban in Afghanistan the country's future was uncertain but buoyed by cautious optimism. In 2005, students of media studies from Freiburg traveled to Herat, a commercial metropolis in the west of Afghanistan. There they lived with families they portrayed for a film project. All the families were committed to providing their children with a better future through education. However, the supply of teachers and materials was out of proportion to the number of students, which is why some schools even had a three-shift system.
