The three brothers Klaus, Kunz and Franz run a shoemaking business. When the honest Klaus hands an old woman water and food, he receives a golden goose as a sign of gratitude. It has a special characteristic: all the curious, envious, greedy people stick to it. On his travels Klaus collects such a colourful entourage, even a miller with a donkey got stuck. In the next town he makes the king's daughter laugh with it, who has fallen into melancholy out of boredom. The king, who promised his daughter as a reward to the one who succeeds, sets new conditions in view of poor Klaus.
