Burden

Thirteen men gather in a remote country house in Catalonia for an intense weekend retreat. Under the guidance of anthropologist and therapist Rai Crespí, they confront their inner blockages and wounds. Through physical and emotional exercises, they explore new ways of being men. The participants, shaped by traditional notions of masculinity, seek authentic forms of expression for their identities. They share their experiences, fears, and hopes in a safe space characterized by trust and openness. Miguel Eek's documentary BURDEN (original title: LA CARGA) accompanies these men on their journey of self-discovery. The film premiered at FIDBA 2023 in Buenos Aires and has been shown at the Cinespaña Festival in Toulouse, among others. With his sensitive camera work and decision to use black-and-white images, Eek creates an intimate atmosphere that captures the emotional depth of the participants. BURDEN is an impressive portrait of the search for a new masculinity that appeals to both men and women and provokes thought.
