Sow the Wind

A young Italian student of agriculture wants to save her family's olive trees from pollution, parasite infestation, and corruption. Nica returns to her childhood home in southern Italy after a long absence. She feels a deep connection to her grandmother's land with its centuries-old olive trees that have not borne fruit for three years. So far, no pesticide has helped against the pests that attack them. Time is pressing, because her parents are under financial pressure and want to cut down the trees and sell the land. "In his second feature film, Danilo Caputo makes the fortitude of his young heroine palpable in every scene. Against the backdrop of this Catholic country, he interweaves modernity and tradition, rebellion and conservatism, science and pagan faith." (Berlinale)
