The Notes of Anna Azzori / A Mirror that Travels through Time

This essay film, based on a prior Berlinale film 'Anna' from 1975, addresses the place of women in a world that was full of discrimination back in the 70s and remains so today. From 1972 to 1975, Italian underground directors Alberto Grifi and Massimo Sarchielli, accompanied a pregnant, drug-addicted runaway for their film "Anna". They offered her help and in return made her the main character of their film project, which oscillates between documentation and (re)staging, between empathy, distanced observation and exploitation. Grifi and Sarchielli, however, never relinquished control over the work. "The German filmmaker's work on "Anna" is a deconstruction of a film that was a deconstruction of a life. A dialogue of an experimental filmmaker with the cornerstone of experimental cinema." (Quinlan)
