The Sun Is Burning

Zou and Anselm are newly in love, but the carefree Berlin vibe fades when Anselm gets accepted into the Erasmus program and Zou seeks comfort from Anselm's friend Gustav. When Zou and Anselm bump into each other at a party, her feelings for him come back, and she tells Anselm what happened with Gustav. The news is like the final full stop at the end of Anselm and Zou's novel. He's gone, but the obsession lives on in Zou with renewed intensity. Alone, she returns to the synapses of reality, to her shitty pseudo-creative job, to her creepy boss and colleagues, to the thousand disappointing sexual adventures that weigh on her a little more each day. But her futile attempts cannot distract her from what she really wants: to be with Anselm. THE SUN IS BURNING, the feature film debut of Joséphine Demerliac, premiered in 2021 at the Max Ophüls Prize and was included in the official programs of several festivals, including Film Ohne Grenzen, Finale Plzen, and the French Film Week Berlin. The film was awarded the Best Production Award at the Achtung Berlin Festival and won the Audience Award on Sooner.de in February 2022.
