With the Wind

In a remote region of the Swiss Jura, a couple lives in complete self-sufficiency and harmony with nature. Their life is marked by love, ideals, and hard work. When they decide to produce their own electricity, an engineer is invited to install a wind turbine. However, his arrival brings unrest to the couple's previously stable life and puts their relationship and values to the test. At the center of the film, directed by Bettina Oberli, is Pauline, played by Mélanie Thierry, whose raw and fearless portrayal lends a particular urgency to the story. Pauline and her partner Alex, played by Pierre Deladonchamps, have been running their family farm in the Jura for 15 years, striving for an independent and peaceful life. But the arrival of the enigmatic Samuel (Nuno Lopes) and Galina (Anastasia Shevtsova), a teenager from Chernobyl, disrupts their routine and reveals cracks in their seemingly idyllic life. Oberli's film, which premiered at the Piazza Grande in Locarno, is visually stunning and showcases the majestic landscapes of the Jura. But behind the beautiful façade lies a story of hidden desires and the complexity of human relationships. Stéphane Kuthy's atmospheric cinematography, combined with Arnaud Rebotini's driving film score, captures the tension and emotional storms brewing inside Pauline. While WITH THE WIND follows familiar plot lines, its execution is anything but ordinary. The film stays close to Pauline's perspective, capturing her inner turmoil and the changing dynamics around her. The tension culminates in key scenes that are both visually and emotionally striking, leaving a lasting impression.
