In 1939 the Musisches Gymnasium Frankfurt am Main was founded at Hitler's personal request. There "the most musically talented boys of the Greater German Reich" were to study. With the young choirmaster and composer Kurt Thomas, the National Socialists secure a famous music teacher as headmaster. But Thomas initially refuses to accept the post and succeeds in pushing through his catalogue of demands, which, among other things, excludes the influence of the Hitler Youth. The "Musensöhne" become so successful that the school is classified as important for the war. The film describes a fascinating microcosm and uses a variety of different archive material to tell a complex and exciting story from the time of the Third Reich.
