Chorus

After the discovery of the remains of their son Hugo, who disappeared ten years ago, Christophe and Irène meet again. Since their separation, the two have lived in isolated worlds: he has retreated to Mexico, she has devoted herself to her career as a contralto in a choir for early music. The news of Hugo's death forces them to confront their past and their shared loss. François Delisle directs CHORUS in tranquil black and white, focusing on the inner worlds of his protagonists. The film was shown in the Panorama section of the Berlinale in 2015 and in competition at the Sundance Film Festival. It won the Grand Jury Prize at the Indianapolis International Film Festival and the main prize at the Five Lakes Film Festival, among other awards. The leading roles are played by Sébastien Ricard as Christophe and Fanny Mallette as Irène. Mallette was nominated for Best Actress at the 2016 Gala du cinéma québécois for her performance. CHORUS is a quiet, intense drama about grief, guilt, and the possibility of reconciliation. Delisle succeeds in impressively portraying the emotional emptiness and the search for redemption.
