Fariaho

In the 1950s puppeteer Sebastian Fußberg travels the country performing plays. He is accompanied by the grandson of an old friend who was murdered in a concentration camp. The memory of Achim's grandfather weighs on him like a pang of guilt because he himself was released in 1943. In Achim he sees his possible future replacement as a puppeteer. A little later, Fußberg takes in the girl Marianne, whom he rescues from a precarious life at a construction site. FARIAHO was shot by the artistic working group 'Babelsberg' on ORWO-Color and premiered on September 1, 1983 at the Berlin Kino International. The 'Neue Zeit' noted that Fariaho is "a film of frugal wealth, and in it three people, one old and two young, are equally searching for meaning in their lives."
