Mauro Bigonzetti is one of the leading choreographers in the Italian ballet world, which was able to free itself from the dominance of classical opera companies in the 1980's. His choreographies, most of which he developed for his Aterballetto in Reggio Emilia, are regarded as groundbreaking and have long since helped him achieve international success. "When I think of Caravaggio, I always think of the artist and the human being at the same time. It is these two sides of human existence that essentially interest me. The relationship of these two worlds to each other - on the one hand the inner, and how this is expressed in the artistic on the other - is the inspiration for this work." Mauro Bigonzetti developed CARAVAGGIO with the Staatsballett Berlin.
