Amin

Amin has been living in France for nine years, separated from his family in Senegal. His daily life consists of hard work on construction sites and living in a hostel with other migrants. His relationship with his wife Aïcha and their three children is limited to rare visits and financial support. When he meets Gabrielle, a single French woman, a tender relationship develops between them. Amin, shaped by a sense of duty and restraint, faces the challenge of reconciling his emotions and responsibilities. The film was presented in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs section at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. It received international recognition, including the Sichtwechsel Film Award at the Hamburg Film Festival and nominations at the Jerusalem Film Festival and the Cairo International Film Festival. Philippe Faucon directs the story with minimalist aesthetics, focusing on the quiet tones of everyday life. The performances of Moustapha Mbengue as Amin and Emmanuelle Devos as Gabrielle have been praised for their authenticity. With AMIN, Faucon continues his cinematic exploration of migration and integration, similar to his award-winning film Fatima. He highlights the inner conflicts of migrants between home and foreign lands, duty and personal happiness.
