La Chana

Antonia Santiago Amador was a great star in the flamenco world under the name “La Chana” and thrilled audiences with her unique dance style. With her unique dance style, she achieved worldwide fame in the 60s and 70s. Even the British acting star Peter Sellers, with whom she appeared in “Bobo ist der Größte”, invited her to Hollywood. However, at the height of her career, La Chana suddenly disappeared from the scene. After 30 years of absence from the stage, the flamenco icon begins working on her comeback for the love of dance and gives the audience a deep yet entertaining insight into her life – on and off stage. LA CHANA by Lucija Stojevic expands on this narrative to create a striking documentary that not only sheds light on the flamenco legend's illustrious past, but also focuses on her exciting return to the limelight. The film was screened at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) 2022 – where it received much praise in the section for outstanding feature-length documentaries – and was also well received at the Cannes Critics' Week festival, where its approach of combining historical archive footage with current interviews was celebrated as innovative and touching.
