Eva. S - Die Nationalistin

In a shabby hotel room somewhere in Prague, a young woman waits for her clients. She is an actress – or maybe not. In between the visits of the punters, she begins to share her thoughts: about her political conflict between socialism and nationalism, about her longing for closeness, about the emptiness she tries to fill with sex, alcohol and pills. Fiction and reality blur as she loses herself in a maelstrom of self-doubt and social contradictions. The camera stays close to her face, which is marked by both fatigue and determination. Her monologues are raw, unembellished and deeply disturbing – an intimate look into a torn soul that staggers between ideologies and identity. EVA S. – DIE NATIONALISTIN is an existential chamber play by Detlef Bothe. The 76-minute film celebrated its premiere at the 49th Hof International Film Festival in 2015 and was perceived there as a radical milieu study that consistently defies conventional narrative patterns. The film's minimalist aesthetic and lack of narrative conventions allow the protagonist's inner turmoil to take center stage. Critics have described the work as “simply oppressive, moving and gruesome” (munig.com) and praised the unconventional approach to a topic that has rarely been so relentlessly brought to the screen.
