12 year-old Kattaka finds something very unexpected in her Christmas stocking: the revelation that the man she has called “Papa” is not really her father. Together with her best friend Knäcke and 70-year-old Lene she travels to Gdansk, Poland on a clapped-out barge to find her real dad. For Kattaka it’s an escape. For Lene it’s a journey back: back to her home in Masuren, from which she fled in the Second World War. And back to her suppressed pain of having lost both parents. Only together can this ragtag band regain the ground beneath their feet and find themselves.
The film is a cross-cultural and inter-generational journey of a teenage girl, her best friend and an old woman seeking lost family and peace of mind.
