Zoe

Zoe is an elevator girl at the TV tower on Alexanderplatz and lives in a cramped bathroom. Maren-Kea Freese shows the everyday life of a woman in a city in transition who is searching for herself. ZOE was made in 1992, not long after the reunification of Berlin. The film shows in poetic black and white and 16mm images East Berlin districts like Mitte before many buildings were modernized or have vanished. ZOE captures a moment in Berlin's history and paints a sensitive portrait of "Generation X" before that term was coined to describe young people on a quest.
