Layla Fourie

Layla Fourie is a non-white South African, raising her her young son Kane alone in today's Johannesburg. To improve her financial situation, she takes a job with a lie detector firm. Her first assignment is at an out of town casino resort, and she takes Kane with her. On the long night drive out there, she accidentally runs over a white man. Fearing the consequences, she covers the accident up – a fateful decision. “Unimaginable to most non-residents, the paranoia that is part of living in South Africa is realized with subtle specificity.” (Variety)
