This extraordinary drama begins with a funeral: Björn, the son of the deceased, is supposed to give a speech about his father, but he finds himself unable to speak. Since his childhood, he has remained a shy and reserved person. His father's death, however, gives him the impetus to change his own life. To enhance the effect of authenticity and to blur the line between documentary and fiction, the director Johan Löfstedt chose his relatives as the main actors also cut old (real) family videos into the material he shot for the film. "SMÅSTAD is a quiet, thoughtful film." (feature film.de)
