European Identities

What does it mean to be European? One possible answer is that European identity is composed of different elements that unite and distinguish us. One of these elements is art, especially film. Films are an expression of creativity, emotions and values that shape a society. They can also help us learn about other perspectives and experiences that broaden our own views. European films often show a more nuanced portrayal of people and situations that are not always clear-cut or happy. They also reflect the historical, political and social challenges Europe faces, such as migration, integration or democracy. They show us that Europe is a cultural community based on shared ideals and also a project of solidarity that is shaped together.
