Björn Melhus is a German contemporary artist and filmmaker known for his innovative work that explores themes of identity, media culture, and the influence of mass media on society. Melhus was born in 1966 in Kirchheim unter Teck, Germany. Since the 1990s, he has created a diverse body of work, including short films, video installations, and performances that often feature him playing multiple roles. Some of his notable works include "Auto Center Drive" (2003), "The Oral Thing" (2001), and "I’m Not the Enemy" (2011). His distinctive style frequently involves deconstructing and recontextualizing television and film tropes, creating a critical commentary on contemporary media. Melhus has received several awards and recognition for his work, including the International Video Art Award from ZKM Karlsruhe and the German Short Film Award.
